Google Play music and Spotify are the best-selling music apps on iOS and Android, respectively, according to data from App Annie, which tracks app downloads and installs for the Apple App Store and Google play.
Spotify, which has long been the most popular music app on iOS, was at number one with 4.7 million downloads, followed by Apple Music with 2.8 million and GooglePlay Music with 1.9 million.
Spotify also had the highest share of users who download the two music apps: 54% of users on iOS had Spotify, compared to 43% of those on Android.
Spotify has been steadily gaining ground in the market, with the app’s iOS and Googleplay revenue each growing by around 10% in the past 12 months.
Spotify’s revenue grew by more than 30% year over year, with revenue for the quarter ending March 31 coming in at $2.3 billion.
Apple Music, which is a subsidiary of Google, was second in the list with $1.3 million.
The company had revenue of $1 billion in the quarter, up from $1 million in the prior year.
The App Annie report also noted that Google Play accounted for 56% of app downloads on iOS in Q4, compared with 49% for Apple Music and 41% for Spotify.
