Ireland’s FM is to send satellites to France to help the country’s weather service.RTE reported that a deal was signed to send up to 50 satellites to French satellite provider Eutelsat this month.
In a statement, the FM said:The aim is to ensure the best weather for our people and to make sure the weather remains predictable.
It is also to provide an alternative source of meteorological data to the National Weather Service.
The FM also announced that a second phase of the project would be completed next year and would be powered by a new generation of weather-monitoring satellites.
It said the first phase would be funded by a €1 billion ($1.3 billion) government fund, and the second phase by €400 million from a third government fund.
